Tasting notes and perfect serve
N: When I first smelled this gin, the smell of carrot could be noticed very quickly. Still, coriander quickly takes the upper hand, the herb that is dominant in front of the nose. The coriander really causes a tingling in the nose. The freshness of juniper plays a subtle role in the spirit. P: Unlike the nose, in the palette of flavours I mainly notice the juniper. It provides a full, fresh and promising start. The carrot doesn't taste strong enough for me, but the coriander stands out. This complements the delicious tones of juniper. With its 47.2% ABV, this gin is great. F: The aftertaste of the gin is long, spicy but somewhere also soft. At the very end a drier character comes to the fore.
S: J.Gasco 13.5 tonic water supports the fresh character of the juniper in this gin. This combination ensures that the flavors of the gin aren't lost at all and the gin does not become too dry. For us this is the perfect tonic. Finishing can be done with some fresh coriander.
Background information
So many botanicals that are used today to make a special Gin. So many different new things people are trying. But why not stay with simplicity? Henrik Elsner, master distiller of the ELG series, turned his back against these new trials and made a gin based on just 3 botanicals. All the power to the juniper! According to Henrik, juniper should take the lead in the Gin. The juniper must have the space and place to breathe in order to give it its own flavours. Something in which I have to agree with Henrik completely. Of course, juniper is its most important and most presented botanical. The 2 other botanicals? Coriander and carrot! Coriander, which we often see in Gin, also brings a pleasant spice here. Carrot, on the other hand, we did not yet see it in a gin. The carrot provides a smooth mouthfeel and goes nicely with the spicy tones of juniper. The 3 botanicals are all distilled separately so that they can provide precision work and also ensure that every batch has the same flavors. When adding a tonic the G&T becomes cloudy, this is a sign of quality. Proof that there are a lot of essential oils present. The ELG Gin series is made in editions of 1250 bottles numbered by Henrik. And this one is only number one, there's more coming for you! Stay Tuned! Gintasticbelgium
