Garden Tiger: Tasting notes + full review

Tasting notes and perfect serve

N: The Garden Tiger brings you a surprisingly fruity nose full of blood orange. It mainly reminds me of candied fruit. Juniper is a bit missing in the nose, although it does cause some spicyness in the background. Also tones of coriander can be noticed in the nose. I am already curious about the taste. P: This gin provides a very complex and layered palette of flavours. When you drink, you get the variations of soft oranges, spicy juniper berries, softer notes again and at the end even some floral notes. Not always easy to find the specific botanicals, but I was pleasantly surprised. F: The finish of the Garden Tiger is medium. There is a nice spiciness in combination with the fresh tones of orange. These flavours continue to play back in my mouth. S: We started to combine the Garden Tiger with a number of tonics, in order to achieve our ideal serve that would maintain the flavour of the gin's palette. First we tried the gin with an Imperdibile Dry Bitter. This tonic retains the flavours of the gin, but makes it too dry in aftertaste. Not the ideal tonic to combine this gin with. Secondly, we tried a Double Dutch Indian tonic. This immediately proved to be a better combination. He keeps the taste of the gin, but it makes it a bit sweeter and softer. Fortunately, the spicyness of juniper berries is not lost with this tonic. Yet we were not 100% convinced yet. This gin needs a tonic that is not too prevalent and keeps the gin well balanced. Luckily we found our ideal tonic.... Our perfect Garden Tiger Tiger gin-tonic is made in combination with an Aqua Monaco Indian Tonic and a slice of blood orange/orange. Very nice for those who want to drink a fruity, fresh Gin! Are you more a fan of earthy, dry, spicy gins then he won't quite be your favorite. But if you love a good Gin, please try it! You can order a bottle of Garden Tiger on their website or at www.masterofmalt.com

Background information

Today we take you to the Capreolus Distillery. And we would like to tell you more about Barney Wilczak and his life-work, his Garden Tiger Gin. In his own small but beautiful distillery he started making an eaux de vie. But just like any lover of spirits, he was looking for new challenges. There are already numerous different spirits on the market, but he wanted something else. Doing something different from what everyone has already brought. He wanted to make a gin that would remind him of his favourite eaux-de-vie. A Gin with the same complexity. In order to meet this complexity, he distilled a lot of botanicals in order to find out which ones he could use and which ones he wouldn't use at all. After selecting the botanicals, he began sorting them into 6 different groups. Based on flavours and fragrances. He then combined the groups one by one to produce a complex, balanced distillate. This distillate contains no less than 34 local, wild and traded botanicals. Quality is very important to Barney. To give an example, he picked 2600kg of blood oranges during the winter season to peel them all together, vacuum-pack and freeze them. This way the flavours will not get destroyed. He also used UV resistant glass to protect all of the botanicals. Isn’t that amazing? With his Eaux De Vie he is very unique in the United Kingdom and now also with his own gin. He also takes a lot of attention to the details during preparation. He will clean and inspect every botanical, every piece of fruit by himself. He does not participate in recycling botanicals at all. This of course does not result into high amounts of money, but he can promise that every bottle is of high quality. His Gin has been on the market for about 18 months and yet he has received tremendous positive reactions. The Gin is available in 12 different countries and even in a top cocktail bar with a Michelin star, they use its Garden Tiger Gin. His product was even chosen by The Whisky Exchange as the Spirit Of The Year 2017 As you can see, this is a great product with the necessary attention for the art of distilling.

That's it for the amazing Garden Tiger gin! See you next time with a new gin!

Cheers,

Gintasticbelgium
