Glendalough Gin: Tasting notes and full review

Tasting notes and perfect serve

N: Super fresh! Fresh juniper is present, together with pine fragrances it is taking the lead. There is also some citrus presented, coming from lemon. Such an inviting scent. Especially for the juniper forward ginlovers this is a must. If you're also a fan of pine, then this one is pure perfection. P: The gin comes in gently. But again, juniper plays an important role. After juniper berries I get mainly floral tones. In the middle of the pallet I get some fruity notes of raspberry. Towards the end you get a warm winter spice. What a complex and f*kng tasty gin! F: A long finish that lasts for a very long time with a very rich taste. There is still a lot of spice present in the finish S: The Glendalough Gin is delicious in combination with a Thomas Henry Tonic and a slice of grapefruit. Some juniper berries to make the G&T more attractive. A Gin that's completely my thing!

Background information

March 17, not that special for us in Belgium, but in Ireland they celebrate their national holiday today. This national holiday, better known as "St. Patrick's Day", is a day of enthusiastic celebration throughout Ireland. And what's the best way to celebrate all together? We celebrate it with an Irish Gin today! That's why we're bringing you this Glendalough Wild Botanical Gin. A labor intensive, thoughtfully-crafted, Irish, small batch spirit that captures the true essence of Glendalough. Glendalough is a glacial valley nestled in the Wicklow Mountains. Glendalough is renowned for it’s early medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin, a legendary monk AND the man on the bottle. He spended 7 years in an isolated valley of Glendalough, where he became so at one with the nature that a blackbird landed on his hand and laid her eggs. He stood there with his arms open until the eggs hatched. He did it al alone and the hard way! That’s why they got the motto “Stand Apart” on every bottle. Because they also make their gin “The hard way!” What’s so hard about it? They only use fresh botanicals, never dried! Wild botanicals from the mountains around the distillery. All of the botanicals are placed in a still within hours of foraging. All foraged by one person, Geraldine Kavanagh. As you can see, hard work only! All of the botanicals are slow-distilled by Rowdy Rooney. They produce tiny batches, less than 250L. Some used botanicals: Juniper, Orris Root, Elderflower, Wild Angelica, Blackberry Leaves, Wild Raspberries, Fresh lemons, lemon balm, Watermint, Red Clover Flowers,... The Gin has an ABV of 41% and comes in bottles of 70cl. An added value for Ireland. A meeting of all seasons in Glendalough. Crafted the hard way! We love this story! Cheers, Gintasticbelgium 🇧🇪
