Tasting notes and perfect serve
N: The nose of this gin is surprisingly sweet. I notice especially the berries that are used in this gin (elderberries, blackberries) as well as the honey can be taken out of the character. Juniper is also present. The whole thing is completed by citrus, where I have to think mainly of candied orange. I'm curious about the taste. P: The palette is a different experience than what I get in the nose. The juniper that I had in my nose unfortunately falls away here, which I regret a bit. The palette of flavours is a balance between citrus, spicy and some fruity tones in the background. The gin provides a warm feeling in the mouth and coriander provides a playful tingle on the tongue and in my mouth. I also got some lemon zest, it gives the gin a cool twist. F: The finish of this gin is medium. The coriander spice gets through well, but it is the honey that makes a very smooth end. S: As a perfect serve for this gin we recommend a Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic. This tonic is recommended by the makers themselves, and brings out the full flavour palette of the gin properly. Especially the fruity notes come forward in combination with tonic. As a garnish we opt for a small lemon zest and some coriander seed to highlight the citrus and the spicy element in this Gin. Opus gin is a sweeter gin that will be loved on hot spring or summer days!
Background information
Three young men together in a bar, some alcoholic drinks, lots of laughter and fun, that was enough to come up with the idea of making their own Gin. Suddenly, spontaneously, but with the right amount of enthusiasm, they started working on their own Gin. They had the dream of building their own distillery together, but this turned out to be anything but easy. So they started to taste and test at the already existing distilleries in Luxembourg. Soon they came to the conclusion that there were already many good distilleries and that together with one of them they could achieve the desired result. Opus is made from a 96% proof grain alcohol. They give the necessary attention to the distillation process, whereby quality is one of the most important concepts. The distillate is made of 26 different botanicals, (8 local botanicals). The main botanicals are juniper berries, coriander, rosehip, blackberry, elderberry, elderflower, rose petal, pine, seedling, honey and more. Besides the previous botanicals, you can also find a lot of citrus flavours in the gin, which give the Gin a very fresh and warm character. 'Opus' itself stands for the passion they have put into the product. The end result is a small batch product with an ABV of 44% and the necessary attention to quality. Cheers, Gintasticbelgium
